10 Years of Innovation: Introducing the Speakers

The 10 Years of Innovation event, celebrating Farsoon’s 10-year anniversary and AM Innovation Forum held on Thursday, 24th of October 2019 at our Changsha Headquarters, has attracted great attention from all industries including aerospace, automotive, industry, medical and institution. With a clear focus on the industrialization and Innovation, the event has gathered a group of industry and academic leaders and users from China and around the globe.

The full-day event will begin with a brief ceremony, followed by a Farsoon campus tour, after which the AM Innovation Forum, including more than 10 presentations by AM leaders from various industries will share their experiences and insights on additive technologies and applications. The confirmed speakers from: Jabil Group, BASF, Siemens, FKM (represented by managing director of Farsoon Europe Dr. Dirk Simon), Solar Applied Materials Technology Co., Ltd. (SAMT), Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (Kitech), Colorado School of Mines, University of Southern California, Falcontech Co., Ltd, SAPW Technology, and a special guest speaker from the aerospace industry. Management level representatives from Farsoon Americas and Farsoon Europe, Farsoon global channel partners will also be attending.

The following are brief introductions for our honored speakers:

John Dulchinos

Vice President, Global Automation and 3D Printing at Jabil Circuit, Inc.

Presentation Title: Emerging Applications for 3D Printing Across the Product Lifecycle

John Dulchinos is Vice President, Digital Manufacturing at Jabil, Inc. where he is responsible for leading their digital manufacturing strategy including robotics, 3D printing, M2M communications and automation. Prior to Jabil, he served as President & Chief Executive Officer at Adept Technology, Inc. where he also served as President and Chief Operating Officer, and Vice President of Robotics.

He began his career as an automation engineer at Automated Assemblies Corporation. Mr. Dulchinos is an active member of the robotics industry, serving as President of Silicon Valley Robotics, a member of the board of directors of the Robotics Industry Association (RIA) and the International Federation of Robotics (IFR. He appeared in the 60 Minutes documentary “March of the Machines” and in the New York Times story “The Robot Factory Future”. He also contributed to the United States long-term robotics roadmap. Mr. Dulchinos holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a concentration in robotics.

Volker Hammes

Managing Director BASF New Business GmbH, Ludwigshafen/Rhein, Chairman of BASF 3D Printing Solutions GmbH, Heidelberg

Presentation Title: Industrial AM requires fit-for-purpose 3D printing solutions at B2B economics

Since January 1, 2016 Volker Hammes is Managing Director of BASF New Business GmbH, Ludwigshafen/Germany. He is particularly responsible for Business Build-up of innovative material solutions e.g. for E-Power Management, Functional Feed Additives, and 3D-Printing (Additive Manufacturing). Additionally, he is Chairman of BASF 3D Printing Solutions GmbH, Heidelberg/Germany.

Volker Hammes enjoys 20 years of experience in product development, marketing, business development, sales management in the plastic industry at BASF Group, holds a Master of Science degree with first-class honors in Mechanical Engineering/Plastics Technology from RWTH Aachen University.

Dr. Dirk Simon

Managing Director, FARSOON Europe GmbH

Presentation Title: Beta-testing Farsoon HT1001P with FKM in Europe: Partnership to leverage industrial laser sintering

The authors: Dr. Dirk Simon, Managing Director, FARSOON Europe GmbH; Christian Blöcher, Managing Director, FKM Sintertechnik GmbH

Dirk Simon is member of Farsoon Global Management Team and Managing Director of Farsoon Europe GmbH, where he leads the Farsoon Europe team on strategy, business build-up, service, sales and marketing. Before Farsoon he worked in BASF for nearly 6 years, and pushed the topic “3D-Printing at BASF” from Scouting through New Business Incubation into the Business Build-up, and has held the position of Global Business Director with BASF New Business GmbH, and part of the management team of BASF 3D-Printing Solutions GmbH in Heidelberg. He holds a PhD-degree in Polymer Science and has over 20 years working experiences in Applications of Plastics, Marketing & Sales, Purchasing and Management in various chemical companies in Germany and Switzerland.

Christian is Managing Director of FKM Sintertechnik GmbH, he enjoys 15 years’ experience in business development, partner relationship building and marketing prospects in the advanced manufacturing industry. FKM is Germany’s pioneers of Selective Laser Sintering and have been part of a revolutionary re-thinking process in the industry since 1994. FKM is pushing the boundary of SLS technology to change entire functional parts production process where the traditional manufacturing defined the rules of design.

Sebastian Bersch

Presentation Title: Industrializing Additive Manufacturing together

Sebastian Bersch enjoys many years of experience in project management, sales, portfolio management, strategy planning and general management in software industry, holds a Corporate Management & Economics degree from Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, Germany and WITS University, South Africa. Siemens AG is a global technology powerhouse that has stood for engineering excellence, innovation, quality, reliability and internationality for more than 170 years. The company is active around the globe, focusing on the areas of power generation and distribution, intelligent infrastructure for buildings and distributed energy systems, and automation and digitalization in the process and manufacturing industries.

Dr. Stephen Liu

Presentation Title: Materials Quality Assurance of 3D Printed and Welded AM Structures: Process-Material Interaction; Metallurgical & Mechanical Properties Characterization

Dr. Stephen Liu enjoys more than 40 years experience in metallurgical engineering, hold a Ph.D. of Metallurgical Engineering in Colorado School of Mines and a Master’s degree of Metallurgical Engineering in Escola de Engenharia da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil. Dr. Stephen Liu has professional registration of CEng Chartered Professional Engineer at the Engineering Council, U.K. since 1995. As one of the true pioneers in metallurgical engineering industry, Dr. Stephen Liu has received various honors and awards, including Fellow of the International Institute of Welding – FIIW – “In recognition of his Distinguished Contribution to Welding Science and Technology and the Professional Stature of the Field” in 2018, Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining – FIMMM – “For the application of fundamental metallurgical and materials engineering principles in the investigation and understanding of welding and joining phenomena, including the establishment of basic scientific guidelines in the metallurgical design of welding and joining consumables” in 2018, Fellow of the ASM International – FASM – “For the Application of Fundamental Engineering Principles to the Investigation of Welding and Joining Phenomena, especially in Harsh Environments” in 2001, Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers – FASME – “Exceptional Engineering Achievements and Contributions to the Engineering Profession” in 2000, Fellow of the American Welding Society – FAWS – “Significant Contribution in the Research, Education and Industry in the Science, Technology and Application of Welding” in 1996.

Dr. Michael Wu

Presentation Title: NiTa Alloy Sputtering Target Built by Selected Laser Melting for Hard Disc Applications

Dr. Michael Wu enjoys 29 years experience in R&D, marketing and sales, business management in materials and aerospace industries, hold a Ph.D. of Materials Science and Engineering in National Cheng Kung University. Michael Wu worked as Manager at Materials Research Lab of Industrial Technology Research Institute, Executive VP at Aero Win Technology Corp., Director of Division for Aero Engine Tech. at Center for Aviation & Space Technologies of Industrial Technology Research Institute, VP at Shih Her Technology Inc., Executive Officer, New Business Development and Acting Director of Marketing and Sales at AvioCast Inc. Michael Wu has published 21 refereed papers and 27 conference papers, and applied or granted 8 cases for 16 patents.

Dr. Yong Chen

Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, University of Southern California

Presentation Title: Recent Progress in Biomimetic Additive Manufacturing Technology: From Materials to Functional Structures

Dr. Yong Chen is a professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2001. Before joining USC in 2006, he was a Senior Research and Development engineer in 3D Systems Inc, the pioneer in the 3D printing industry. Dr. Chen’s research focuses on additive manufacturing (3D printing) in micro- and meso- scales. He received over ten Best/Outstanding Paper Awards in major design and manufacturing journals and conferences. Other major awards he received include the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award, the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and the invitations to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Frontiers of Engineering Symposiums. Dr. Chen is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He has served as conference/program chairs as well as keynote speakers in several international conferences, including the Conference Chair of the 2017 International Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC/MSEC/ICM&P) and the program co-chair of the 2019 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences (IDETC). He also serves on the editorial boards of several design and manufacturing journals.

Dr. Changwoo Lee

Managing Director (Gangwon Regional Division) of Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (Kitech)

Presentation Title: The Medical Industry Application of Ti and Ti Alloy in Additive Manufacturing

Changwoo Lee enjoys more than 20 years’ experience in product development, research, and general management in the metal materials industry. He holds a Ph. D. of Material Science in Tohoku University and a Master’s degree of Physical Metal Materials in Korea University. Changwoo Lee is the first/corresponding or Co-author of 33 SCI papers and 70 non-SCI papers, enjoys 99 patents including 4 international patents, 84 responsible projects (21,900,000,000 KW), and 144 participation research projects. Research fields cover metal 3D printing, micro-joining & semiconductor electric packaging.

Wei Li

Sales director of Falcontech Co., Ltd

Presentation Title: Latest Industry Application of Additive Technology in Aerospace Industry Manufacturing

Wei Li joined Falcontech Co., Ltd since 2017. As the sales director, he is responsible for strategy, business build-up, customer service, sales and marketing. Wei Li holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Before joining Falcontech he has worked for Panasonic and Saint-Gobain, with 22 years of management experience. Falcontech was founded in August 2012, is a leading service bureau of metal additive technology for aerospace and aviation industry, with a current industrial scale factory of 7000 square meters located in Wuxi, China.

Xiaodong Jiang

Founder, President of the board, General Manager of SAPW Technology

Presentation Title: Systems and Applications in Industrial Additive Manufacturing

SAPW was founded in 2014 in Wuhan, with experienced core team from automotive industry. The main business includes industrial design and modeling, 3D printing and rapid manufacturing, mold design and manufacturing. SAPW supplies industrial products to leading automotive brands’ passenger cars and commercial vehicles. SAPW is one of the earliest adopters of industrial scale functional parts additive manufacturing for series production. Graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Xiaodong Jiang has long been engaged in product design in the automotive industry. He is familiar with the 3D printing technology, functional parts application and quality system of the automotive industry.
