PrintCity at Manchester Metropolitan University is proud to announce the forthcoming installation of the UK’s first Farsoon UT252P Ultra-Temperature Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) Additive Manufacturing System.
The Farsoon UT252P is an advanced ultra-temperature system capable of processing materials with melting points exceeding 340°C, opening new possibilities for high-temperature applications across sectors including materials engineering, medical devices, and aerospace.
This milestone marks the start of an exciting partnership between PrintCity and Farsoon Technologies, strengthening the UK’s position as a leader in advanced manufacturing and innovation.

Driving Innovation Through Partnership
PrintCity plays a pivotal role in supporting education, academic research, and industrial collaboration throughout Manchester and the UK. The installation of the Farsoon UT252P has been made possible through funding from the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy Zone programme, in collaboration with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).
Through this initiative, GMCA is investing in the region’s Advanced Materials and Manufacturing research and innovation ecosystem. Following a competitive process, Manchester Metropolitan University secured £5 million to deliver a four-year research and innovation programme: the Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMMIC).
This initiative adopts a triple-helix approach—bringing together local government, industry, and academia—to accelerate advancements in manufacturing technologies. AMMIC builds on Manchester Metropolitan University’s strong track record in Additive Manufacturing, Surface Engineering, and Business Innovation with the Centre for Enterprise playing a key role in managing programmes across these areas.

A Strategic Collaboration for the Future
“Our collaboration with Farsoon goes far beyond a transactional relationship,” said Professor Carl Diver, Professor of Innovative Manufacturing. “Together, we will engage with industry partners on research and innovation projects focusing on product development, materials research, sustainability, and technology adoption. Farsoon will work closely with us as we help industry tackle these critical challenges.”
“At Farsoon, we view PrintCity at Manchester Metropolitan University as a key strategic partner in shaping the future of additive manufacturing in the UK. Together, we’re driving innovation and enabling the transition to true serial production — strengthening the competitiveness and supporting sustainable growth across UK manufacturing.” said Martin Hamill, Business Development Manager, UK & Ireland, Farsoon Europe.
A Growing Hub for Advanced Manufacturing
Greater Manchester continues to experience rapid economic growth and leads the UK in the adoption of additive manufacturing technologies. The region’s vibrant innovation ecosystem makes it an ideal location for businesses exploring opportunities in advanced materials and manufacturing.
PrintCity and its partners encourage companies looking to invest in the UK to visit Greater Manchester and engage with its thriving community of innovators, researchers, and industrial partners.
